Please Note 2021 EUROPEAN INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIP for GOLFERS with DISABILITY
To be contested over the; O Connor Jnr Course, Amendoeira Resort, Algarve, Portugal.
Designed by Christy O'Connor Jnr., this course complements the neighbouring Faldo Course and also takes full advantage of being situated in a fertile valley. Its various water features, both lakes and watercourses that are spread throughout the entire course, demand accuracy and test from all golfers, and the rich topsoil has been skilfully landscaped and planted with mature palm trees, affording a lush, ornamental setting like an extensive oasis.
This course has tees that are generally connected to the fairways, but its greater overall distance, the water hazards and big greens provide its challenge. Golfers must also be prepared to read the subtly contoured putting surfaces that are strong features.
Please Note ABOUT MECC COURSE ONE
Mount Edgecombe, formerly known as Hullet’s Country Club, is a two course championship estate that go commonly by the names of Mount Edgecombe One and Mount Edgecombe Two. The estate is nestled in the rolling hills of KwaZulu-Natal just inland from the spectacular Umhlanga.
Designed originally by Sid Brews in 1936, course one was upgraded in 1992 and modernised by Hugh Baiocchi to meet USGA specifications and is one of the few courses’ in South Africa that can boast this. The club has a wealth of history and natural beauty flowing through it.
With four tee options, golfers of any handicap can play on this prestigious South African golf course. The parklands style course has hosted a number of both professional and amateur golfing competitions and stands as a true test of golfing ability. Signature holes include the 13th through 16th and are locally known as the “Amen corner.”
Please Note Played underneath the watchful eye of Table Mountain, King David Mowbray is a parkland course dating back to 1910, which provides an excellent test of golf for players of all abilities. As a multiple host of the South African Open, the layout can be set up to test the very best golfers in the country or with tees further forward, it can play host to new golfers and the younger generation coming through.

Par Adjustment for Gross and Net Scoring Purposes:
There will be prizes for the leading two gross finishers and leading net finisher. All competitors are eligible to win the gross prizes and all amateur players are eligible to win the net prize.
In the gross competition, the best score ‘to par’ will determine the winner. Therefore a 74 for a female competitor off the Red tees will be considered 1 under par while a 71 for a male competitor off the White tees will be considered level par.
In the net competition, the form of play will be net stroke play. A female competitor off the Red tees will receive a par adjustment on their normal Playing Handicap (calculated from their H.I and Course Handicap in the normal way), owing to the par of the course being four shots higher than the par of the White (Men’s) Course. This calculation is made in accordance with the WHS Rules of Handicapping, using the Mixed Tee Calculator which we have also attached for your information. We will make all calculations and each player’s handicap will be on the scorecard so no further action is necessary from you.
The Championship is open to players with a physical, sensory or intellectual impairment based on the International Golf Federation definitions of impairment. Information on these definitions can be found here
The World Rankings for Golfers with a Disability are open to Men and Women with a GA handicap up to 54 across three ranking categories; Stroke and Net (Handicap 18.4 or below) and Stableford (Handicap 18.5+).
Refer to the European Disabled Golf Association website: http://www.edgagolf.com/
Open to disabled amateur or professional players who hold a medical pass (conditions for obtaining a medical pass can be found at www.ffgolf.org) and who are of French or foreign nationality. Entries will be made in order of index, then in order of registration. This event counts towards the WR4GD.
Entries close on Wednesday, March 27, 2024. The maximum number of entries is 70. Should requests exceed this number, entries will be selected in order of index and according to the number of carts available. Wild cards may be distributed. As the number of carts is limited to 20 (subject to availability), the organizing committee reserves the right to close registrations to players requiring a cart to play this event, once the full stock of carts has been allocated. The event will not take place if there are fewer than 20 participants.
Carts
They must be shared by 2 players. Cart eligibility is determined by the medical pass (EDGA) for the tournament and the practice course (reconnaissance).
Carts will be allocated according to registration date, with a maximum of 20 available (subject to availability).

We will make all calculations and each player’s handicap will be on the scorecard so no further action is necessary from you.

and is the only sport where players of all ages and abilities can compete with each other.
One of the primary missions of EDGA is to help individuals with impairment to start, stay, succeed and enjoy golf.
Amongst EDGA’s major achievements is the definition of three different categories of international golfing events that meet the minimum criteria for golfers with disability.
On the 'Listed Events' page you'll find a full list of EDGA approved events and we aim to keep the contents up-to-date with the latest information as soon as it's received from the event organisers. However, please contact any of the individual event organisers directly if you have any questions or require additional information.
All EDGA approved events are open to players from all disability categories who meet the eligibility criteria. The events can be played in the stroke, match play or stableford format.
EDGA Open Series
The EDGA Open Series is open to players from all disability categories with a nationally recognised golf handicap of not more than 54 (subject to the tournament entry criteria in place) who have an Access Pass or a WR4GD Pass. Players will compete together in a pan-disability format. Only the points earned by players who have a WR4GD Pass will be added to the Ranking.
EDGA Challenge Series
The EDGA Challenge Series can be played in specific groups (Blind Challenge, Seated Challenge, One arm Challenge, Women’s Challenge, 60+ Challenge or sub 30 Challenge etc., no combined categories are allowed). An organiser may apply for one badge only and can decide to play the tournament in golf handicap categories, (Stableford, Net, Gross). A challenge series is open to players from all the specific category, with a WHS golf handicap of not more than 54 (subject to the tournament entry criteria in place) who have an Access Pass or a WR4GD Pass.
WR4GD Series
The WR4GD Series: is open to players from all disability categories who have an Access pass or WR4GD pass and a World Handicap System (WHS) golf handicap of not more than 54 (subject to the tournament entry criteria in place). Only the points earned by players who have a WR4GD Pass will be added to the Ranking.
EDGA Tour
The EDGA Tour has two types of tournaments, each of which meets or exceed the requirements of the WR4GD Series.
G4D Tour
The G4D Tour sits alongside the DP World Tour and is open to the leading available gross ranked players at predetermined dates throughout the year from the Gross World Ranking for Golfers with a Disability. Typically the limited fields are between 8-12 players. Players with a confirmed WR4GD pass and evidence of a maximum WHS handicap of 3.4 at the qualification date can compete.
EDGA Invitational
An EDGA Invitational is an event that is either invitation-based or qualification-based. In the case of invitations, these will be at the behest of the organiser/sponsors. In the case of qualification, the organisers will set the criteria, geography, golf handicap, impairment, and position on one of the official WR4GD, be it Gross, Net, or Stableford.
