My experience with G4D – Angelo Colussi, Italy

Italian Angelo Colussi’s journey into golf came as an unexpected twist of fate. In 2012, he was encouraged by a friend to take his first swing. When the club met the ball for the first time, he fell in love with the game, and his friend went on to become his coach.

Angelo’s path to golf was paved with personal challenges, including a life-altering motorbike accident in 1996. However, golf became more than a hobby for him. It became a sanctuary, a place where he could find solace and purpose. From Milan to Tuscany, Angelo found his place at Punta Ala Golf Club, where he not only honed his skills but also nurtured his passion. Golf, for Angelo, was a lifeline, a source of joy, and a testament to his resilience.

Angelo’s dedication to golf began to bear fruit in 2023. He secured a first win in his home country and followed it up with an impressive third-place finish in the Italian Open for Golfers with a Disability. These achievements propelled him up the rankings and earned him a spot in the RSM European Play-offs, held at North Hants Golf Club in England in September.

In 2024, Angelo made further progress, competing on the G4D Tour in Ras Al Khaimah. Angelo said, “Playing just before the top professional players, on the same course, was an unforgettable and incredible experience!”

We like your ‘ink’ Angelo, is it OK to ask?

As Angelo has grappled with the limitations of his disability, adapting his swing to suit his unique circumstances, it is clear he has found strength and confidence, pushing himself to new heights. For Angelo, the G4D Tour is not just about golf—it is about inclusivity and empowerment. Angelo says, “My experience with G4D and EDGA has brought me closer to people with disabilities who have the strength and desire to succeed.”

Reflecting on his journey, Angelo has drawn on inspiration from an array of athletes. Basketball legends like Julius Erving and tennis titans like Roger Federer have been influential. Still, his ultimate hero is closer to home—his son Francesco, whose prowess on the green filled him with pride and admiration.

As Angelo prepares to embark on his next chapter, he does so with a heart full of gratitude and a spirit fortified by resilience. For him, golf isn’t just a sport—it is a testament to the power of the human spirit, a journey of triumph against all odds.
