Educational Resources

EDGA supports the G4D player pathway of Sampler, Participant – Competitor, with coach education and supporting resources for each stage of the journey.

The education process at each level involves coaches engaging with a blended learning programme of theory, research and practical application, including experiential simulations and reflective learning at the more advanced levels of the coach education pathway.

The various elements of EDGA coach education programmes ensure that wherever the coach, volunteer or staff member is on their learning journey, they can develop skills to help them become better prepared, competent and confident to deliver not just more welcoming and inclusive sessions, but have a deeper understanding of how limitations can influence the ability of all golfers, including the non-disabled population. Of course, this understanding will better prepare coaches to provide an enhanced experience to people with limitations, impairments, and disability who visit or use their facility.

1: Sampler Coach – Introduces new, diverse populations to the sport. Sampler coaches deliver fun, accessible, and inclusive sessions in traditional and non-traditional golf environments. Sampler coaches typically comprise of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, support workers, volunteers, club members, and coaches.

2: Participant coach – Develops players with limitations, impairments, and disabilities at the club level. Participant coaches gain deeper insights into a range of impairments and limitations and their effect on the playing of golf. Participant coaches understand the G4D player pathway and can develop impairment specialism. Targeted at the qualified workforce operating in golf clubs or golf facilities or medical professionals who also operate inside the golf industry.

3: Competitor Coach – Works on specific athlete development and the broader areas of performance coaching to further improve the participant’s ability to compete nationally and internationally. This includes specific skills around tournament scheduling, the G4D Player Pathway, equipment technology and club fitting, low point control, and the broader use of specialist technology to optimise the performance of the competitive golfer with a disability.

Approved coaches and their National Federation or education provider will be recognised within the EDGA geographical database and recommended to anyone who submits an enquiry about coaching golf to people with disabilities.

Each element of the EDGA education programmes draws on the vast experience of the EDGA Coach Education team, the ongoing research of thousands of golfers with disabilities, and the feedback from attendees in more than 20 countries where our programmes have been delivered.
